“Winter´s Tales 1”
Location: Gravlev Valley/Kyø Skov Wood/Havemose Bog, Rold Forest, Denmark.
Today´s “photo walk” starts on the western side of Gravlev Valley. Gravlev Valley is also called “The Valley of Happiness”; it is an enormous power place. First, we see a “farm shop”. It is connected to “The Mines of Thingbæk”, which entrance is lying nearby. The shop is owned by Andreas and Marie. They have a large stock of “nature conserving” and grass-feeding sheep and cows (app. 1000 sheep, 1500 lamb, and 60 Dexter/Galloway cows), from which they, in the shop, sell meat and lamb skin. All animals are “nature caretakers” and they are put into the world in order to graze the nature areas with the purpose of advancing biodiversity and avoiding machines.
The shop is a renovated horse stable and you can buy all kinds of other products from local producers such as Hybengården i Jerslev (chutney, marmalade, syrup, and mustard), Engkærgårdens Biavl i Sejlstrup (honey and mead), Mariager Saltcenter (spice salts), Guldbæk Vingård ved Svenstrup (white wine, rosè wine and fruit wine), Falslevgård Mølle ved Mariager (flour and flour mixes), Vebbestrup Is (waffle ice cream) and Søndergaardens Rapsodi ved Hobro (rapeseed oil).
A bit down the hill there is a so-called “Fountain Spring”, or an “Artesian well”. The spring is called “Skillingbrokilden”. The spring supplies water to an ecological fish farm museum with a limited production.
Hereafter the walk continues into the forest on the other side of the valley. I follow “Skovvejen road”, into “Stendalen”, and Kyø Wood. On this trip you can see a “Scout House” lying at a crossroad. In Kyø Wood you can also see a forest house.
I continue into Havemose Bog. Again you´ll see an ancient forest house lying at a crossroad. There are lot of stories about this house. In folklore, crossroads may represent a location "between the worlds" and, as such, a site where supernatural spirits can be contacted and paranormal events can take place. Symbolically, it can mean a locality where two realms touch and therefore represents liminality, a place literally "neither here nor there", "betwixt and between".
One of the stories is about a poacher who lived in the house (its name: Bette Hedekrog). When he died he couldn´t find rest, and continued to live as a ghost. He still haunts the woods around the house, and if you dare to go out into the woods at midnight, you can meet him!
Finally, an evening photo from another forest house (Tøtteruphus), which belongs to one of the forest workers.
