The Rising Problem of Predator Open Access Publisning
Editors play a vital role in the world of science publishing, checking the methodology of authors and managing the peer-review process; they are the thin red line between fact and fakery. At the same time, being appointed a journal editor is one of the many essential rungs in a scientist’s climb toward credibility and tenure.
In academic publishing, Predatory Open Access Publishing is an exploitative open-access publishing business model that involves charging publication fees to authors without providing the editorial and publishing services associated with legitimate journals (open access or not). Newer scholars from developing countries are said to be especially at risk of becoming the victim of these practices. But it is clear that New Age and its obsession with science, and lack of scientific knowledge or education, is finding this possibility very tempting, and is probably the reason for the enormous explosion in such fake publications. So when you in different New Age magazines are hearing a lot about science and scientific journals and publications, it´s best to attain a skeptical attitude.
